How to Buy

This year the MASTERPIECES by Daterra will be sold in an online shop: the coffees will have a fixed price and will go on a first come, first served model. Make sure to log in at the opening time: the stocks are limited and will sell out fast.

Step 1: Order samples
You will want to taste these coffees before deciding what to buy, so you can buy samples. In the homepage, add as many samples as you want to your cart and proceed to checkout. You can order as many samples as you want and we offer free worldwid shipping for purchases of 10 or more samples. You can, however, only order 1 sample of each coffee per ID. Buying samples is optional, but highly recommended. If a buyer doesn’t buy samples, they will not be able to dispute any quality issues regarding purchased coffees.

Step 2: Roast and taste them.
We highly recommend roasting these coffees on gas-fueled roasters for better flavor complexity. We can also provide our Ikawa profiles designed specifically for these coffees, and we would love to hear what you think of them. If you have any questions, please write to

Step 3: Get ready
The coffee sales will start on November 25th at 14:00 GMT – make sure to be ready on time. When the sales open, you’ll be able to add to your cart all the coffees you want but please be advised that some coffees are limited to a few boxes per buyer. The boxes contain 53,25lbs (24.2kg) and the prices are calculated per pound. When you’re happy with your cart, proceed to checkout.

Step 4: Payment
The full amount can be paid by credit card. If your payment isn’t complete within 20 minutes, your cart will be emptied, and the coffees will become available to other buyers.

Step 5: Shipment
There are two ways to get your coffees to you:
You can pay for air freight and receive the coffees by courier; or
You can receive them by sea ship through our partner importers. This option costs less, but takes a bit longer and may not available in certain regions.
Remember that additional charges of taxes and clearance maybe apply and are the buyer’s responsibility. For more details, see our terms and conditions. The shipping with our importers is not available in certain regions – in that case, coffee must be sent by air.

Q: how are you guys doing in Daterra?
A: We are doing fine! We would love to say that we were completely unaffected by the crisis that washed over the world, but that would be a lie. We had to make a lot of changes to keep the farm running in a safe way.

Q: how about the harvest? How was it?
A: Hard. Harvesting coffee this year was difficult because of an unusual combination: a very large amount of coffee to be harvested in the fewest people possible. Fortunately, everything worked out in the end.

Q: Right, how did you make it work?
A: We started planning very early and built four possible scenarios, from the most pessimistic to the most optimistic, and a plan for each case.

Q: how is the coffee like?

A: It feels like nature has laid her merciful eyes upon Daterra and said, “ok friends, you’ve had enough, and you’ve been treating me right, so I’ll spare you from my wrath”.

That’s a poetic way to say the coffees are amazing this year.

We’ve had a great combination of temperature and rainfall which made the coffee trees start producing early, but their maturation was very even and slow – it’s like the trees were just chilling and taking their time to produce all that deliciousness.

Q: If the coffees are so great, why not having an auction this year?
A: because the struggle is real. Since the pandemic started, we have been in touch with our partners and clients to hear their concerns and we’ve heard incredibly sad stories. It just doesn’t feel right for us to put our coffees for sale under a price-based competition–if we did that, we would be benefiting big business that weren’t affected so badly. More than ever, we need better and more exciting coffees–not only to soothe ourselves in these hard times, but also to recover the losses. Don’t get us wrong, we love auctions. It’s super exciting and we love to see people from allover the world fight for our coffees, so we hope to have an auction comeback in 2021.

Q: What can I expect from the MASTERPIECES by Daterra of 2020?
A: You can expect range. We’ve selected thirty lots–yes, thirty!–of the best we can offer. If you’re looking for a bright, phosphoric coffee that tastes like a caipirinha in Copacabana, we have it. If you want a dense, sweet coffee for a fruit jam espresso, we’ve got you covered. Wait, is it low-caffeine that you want? We’ve got you covered. We’re offering a wide range of taste, varietals, and prices so you can have many options.

Q: How can I buy the microlots?
A: This year, the MASTERPIECES by Daterra sales will go just like an online shop: all coffees will have a fixed price. On November 25th, just log in, add all the coffees you want, and pay at checkout. Please read the detailed instructions on how to buy here. Some lots will sell out very quickly so make sure to log in as soon as the store opens to secure your lots.

Q: any final considerations?
A: Yes: We hope these coffees can be a happy time in a chaotic world for you, as they have been for us.

Please enjoy.
